Geo-Tech Imagery is a consulting technical and professional photography and video firm specializing in the planning, generation, and interpretation of technical imagery. During my years of undergraduate and graduate study of geology I found that visual examples of pertinent geology in real field situations were not available. This was especially true in the areas of Engineering Geology, Soils Engineering, and geologic hazards, and is the basis upon which these sets were developed. The images have been selected from various project files, field investigations, and international travel.DVD'S with digitally enhanced images, graphics and audio narrations are in development on all existing sets.
General Parameters For Close Out Slide Sets & CD's
NORTHRIDGE, CALIFORNIA 6.8 EARTHQUAKE OF 1-17-94
Purpose: Documentation of Structural & Fire Damage & Associated Ground Effects.Geo-Tech Imagery was on site within hours of this 6.8 Richter Magnitude earthquake. Early reports indicate this event is going to be the most expensive natural disaster in United States history. Area documentation consisted of two days of aerial and eight days of ground photography. This is the first major event to occur below a major California population center in more than fifty years. The associated damage to freeways, structures, roadways, and utilities could approach thirty billion dollars. The set contains one hundred and two (102) color images with location maps, seismic data maps, general geology and basic statistic.COST $200.00
LANDERS, CALIFORNIA 7.5 EARTHQUAKE OF 6-28-92
Purpose: Documentation Of Major Ground Rupture & Associated Damage.Geo-Tech Imagery was on site within five hours of this 7.5 Magnitude earthquake that involved ground rupture on multiple faults. Two days of low elevation oblique aerial photography and four days of ground photography were expended to provide investigation and documentation imagery on the forty plus (40 +) miles of ground rupture, and the associated damage to structures, roadways, and utilities. Right lateral strike slip was in excess of twenty one (21) feet with vertical scarps up to eighty one (81) inches high. The set contains one hundred (100) color images with location maps, general geology, ground rupture maps, and basic statistics.COST $200.00
LOMA PRIETA EARTHQUAKE OF 10-17-89
Purpose: Documentation of Structural Damage & Associated Ground Effects.Geo-Tech Imagery began generating ground and aerial photography the morning after the 7.1 Magnitude earthquake in Northern California, and continued photographic documentation over a ten day period. The set of one hundred (100) color images was selected from over 3,000 frames of photography generated after the earthquake on the following areas:1. Santa Cruz - Structural Damage and Liquefaction Features.2. Santa Cruz Mts. - Landslides, Ground Fissures, and Structural Damage.3. Oakland - Nimitz Freeway Collapse.4. Watsonville - Structural Damage, Liquefaction Features, and Highway 1 Bridge Failure.5. Moss Landing - Structural Damage & Liquefaction Features.6. San Francisco - Marina Area Fire Damage.COST $200.00
INTRODUCTION TO ENGINEERING GEOLOGYPurpose: A General Overview Slide Set.Engineering Geology, Soils Engineering, and the Earth Sciences are all closely related in the Geotechnical family. This set of forty (40) color images illustrates pictorially and graphically many of the most common field procedures that the beginning level Engineering Geologist will encounter. This includes drilling and trenching equipment, examples of field logs, and sampling and testing equipment in common use in Engineering Geology in California.COST $100.00
GEOTECHNICAL HAZARDS
Purpose: General Class Room UseOne hundred (111) color images on a variety of geologic hazards confronting the geotechnical industry, and the damage they cause. Features covered include:1. Landslides - Developed and Undeveloped Areas.2. Faulting - Aerial Lineaments, Trench Exposures, Etc.3. Volcanism - Cones, Craters, Flows, & Blast Areas.4. Debris Flows5. Differential Settlement In Deep Fills - Southern California6. Earthquakes and Liquefaction - (Example - Coalinga, CA., Whittier, CA., & Loma Prieta, CA.).7. Flooding - Man Made Flooding (Example - Elsinore Lake Overflow).8. Glaciers - New ZealandCOST $200.00
LIFE OF A LANDSLIDEPurpose: Unique Case History of a Landslide Development and Repair.A 150 foot high by 700 foot long cut slope was excavated down slope of a five million gallon reservoir tank to improve an existing road. The reservoir site cut slope was investigated and found to be unstable with a high probability of failure in the near future. The sequence of fifty (50) color images covers a 15 month period that pictorially and graphically illustrates the following:1. Geotechnical investigation of slope stability - pre-failure views - development of primary failure features - post failure views - temporary emergency remedial measures - geotechnical investigation for design and repair - slope repair by excavation of a sectional key buttress fill.2. The cross sections and map view graphics are color enhanced reproductions from the geotechnical reports issued on the site.3. This set contains good examples of field generated cut slope maps and sections with site geology.COST $125.00
$15,000,000 LANDSLIDEPurpose: Damage Documentation and Repair of A Major Urban Landslide.Bluebird Canyon in Laguna Beach, California was the site of one of the most destructive landslides of recent U.S. history. The landslide destroyed or severely damaged 23 homes, associated streets and utilities. Additional homes and property were in jeopardy due to their proximity to landslide scarps, isolation due to loss of roadways, and potential flooding with the slide blocking a major drainage canyon. The failure set into motion a series of emergency monitoring and temporary remedial measures that would continue well into the next year. The set of one hundred (100) color images covers the following:1. Damage documentation immediately following failure - monitoring of movement, crack systems, and associated instrumentation - reestablishing canyon drainage - demolition and removal of damaged homes - initial grading of slide block and scarps to prepare for winter rains - repair and stabilization of the landslide by construction of soldier pile walls, shear keys, and a gravity buttress.COST $200.00
